Counseling Services

Individual Counseling for Adults

Life can feel overwhelming at times, and you don't have to navigate it alone. Individual counseling provides a supportive, nonjudgmental space to process life's challenges, increases self-awareness, and develops practical tools for lasting change.

At Ascend Counseling Services, we take a whole-person approach by considering the biological, psychological, social, and spiritual aspects of your well-being. Together, you and your counselor will identify your goals, build healthy coping strategies, and work toward greater emotional wellness and resilience.

 We commonly support adults experiencing:

  • Anxiety and excessive worry
  • Depression
  • Trauma and PTSD
  • Stress and burnout
  • Relationship concerns
  • Parenting challenges
  • Pregnancy and postpartum adjustment
  • Grief and loss
  • Life transitions
  • Self-esteem and personal growth

Child & Adolescent Counseling

Children and teens often express themselves differently than adults, which is why therapy is tailored to meet them at their developmental level. While conversation is important, healing also happens through creativity, play, movement, and meaningful experiences. Our counselors create a safe, engaging environment where children and adolescents can increase emotional awareness, build coping skills, and gain confidence while addressing the challenges they're facing.

Therapy may include:

  • Play therapy techniques
  • Art and creative expression
  • Role-playing
  • Coping skill development
  • Emotional regulation strategies
  • Parent collaboration and coaching, when appropriate

We frequently help children and teens experiencing:

  • Anxiety
  • Depression
  • ADHD
  • Perfectionism
  • School-related concerns
  • Friendship and social challenges
  • Self-harm behaviors
  • Emotional regulation difficulties
  • Trauma and adverse childhood experiences
  • Family transitions

Family Counseling

Families experience seasons of stress, conflict, and change. Family counseling provides a safe space to improve communication, strengthen relationships, and work together toward healthier patterns. Using a family systems and attachment-based approach, our counselors help each family member feel heard while fostering understanding, connection, and collaboration. Whether your family is navigating conflict, parenting challenges, attachment injuries, or estrangement, therapy can help rebuild trust and create lasting change.

Family counseling may focus on:

  • Improving communication
  • Resolving conflict
  • Strengthening family relationships
  • Parenting support
  • Healing attachment wounds
  • Navigating life transitions
  • Rebuilding trust and connection

Couples Counseling

Healthy relationships require intentional care, especially during difficult seasons. Whether you're feeling disconnected, struggling with communication, healing from betrayal, or simply wanting to strengthen your relationship, couples counseling can help. Our therapists utilize trauma-informed and attachment-based approaches, integrating evidence-based interventions to improve communication, deepen emotional connection, and rebuild trust.

Couples commonly seek counseling for:

  • Communication challenges
  • Conflict resolution
  • Premarital counseling
  • Attachment concerns
  • Infidelity recovery
  • Intimacy concerns
  • Parenting differences
  • Life transitions
  • Rebuilding trust and connection

types of therapy offered

Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT)

CBT helps identify the connection between thoughts, emotions, and behaviors. By learning to recognize unhelpful thinking patterns, build coping skills and develop healthier responses, clients can experience meaningful and lasting change.

CBT is effective for:

  • Anxiety
  • Depression
  • Trauma
  • OCD
  • Stress management
  • Life transitions

Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT)

DBT teaches practical skills to manage intense emotions, improve relationships, build self-confidence and respond to life's challenges more effectively.

Core DBT skills taught in therapy include:

  • Mindfulness
  • Emotion Regulation
  • Distress Tolerance
  • Interpersonal Effectiveness

DBT is especially helpful for adults or teens experiencing emotional overwhelm, relationship difficulties, impulsive behaviors and challenges managing distress.

Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR)

EMDR is a research-supported therapy designed to help individuals heal from trauma and other distressing life experiences. Rather than simply talking about painful memories, EMDR helps the brain reprocess them, so they become less emotionally overwhelming. Clients often experience reduced emotional distress, healthier beliefs about themselves, and greater emotional freedom.

EMDR can be helpful for:

  • Trauma
  • PTSD
  • Childhood experiences
  • Anxiety
  • Disturbing memories
  • Negative self-beliefs

Christian Counseling

For clients who desire faith to be part of their counseling, our therapists can thoughtfully integrate Christian and Biblical principles alongside evidence-based clinical interventions. Christian counseling provides space to explore how faith, values, and Scripture can support healing, hope, and personal growth.

Gottman Method

The Gottman Method is a research-based, couples therapy approach to strengthening relationships through improved communication, increased friendship, and deeper emotional connection.

This approach helps couples:

  • Navigate conflict more effectively
  • Build trust
  • Increase intimacy
  • Strengthen friendship
  • Improve communication
  • Foster lasting connection

Emotionally Focused Therapy (EFT)

Emotionally Focused Therapy is an attachment-based approach that helps individuals, couples, and families strengthen emotional bonds and create healthier relationships. By identifying patterns of disconnection and understanding the emotions and attachment needs that drive them, clients can develop greater emotional security, improve communication, and build stronger, more fulfilling relationships.

EFT can be helpful for:

  • Couples experiencing conflict or disconnection
  • Anxiety and depression
  • Trauma recovery
  • Attachment injuries
  • Family relationship concerns
  • Strengthening emotional connection and trust

Internal Family Systems (IFS)

Internal Family Systems, often referred to as Parts Work, is an evidence-based, trauma-informed therapy that helps individuals better understand the different "parts" of themselves. These parts often develop to protect us from emotional pain or difficult life experiences. Rather than viewing these parts as problems to eliminate, IFS helps clients develop curiosity, compassion, and understanding toward each part while accessing their core self - a place of calm, confidence, and healing.

At Ascend Counseling Services, IFS is often used as a therapeutic lens when working with children, teens, adults, couples, and families. This approach can foster deeper self-awareness, healthier relationships, and lasting emotional healing.

IFS can be helpful for:

  • Trauma and PTSD
  • Anxiety
  • Attachment wounds
  • Emotional reactivity
  • Relationship challenges
  • Self-esteem concerns
  • Grief and loss
  • Family conflict
  • Personal growth and healing

Client-Centered Therapy

Client-Centered Therapy is founded on the belief that people possess the capacity for growth and healing when provided with a safe, compassionate, and accepting environment. If utilizing this approach, your counselor will offer empathy, authenticity, and unconditional positive regard while supporting you in discovering your own strengths, values, and solutions. This collaborative approach empowers clients to create meaningful, lasting change at their own pace.
